about

These tunes all flow so nicely together and are related enough by name that it seems like they were destined to be played together. John Walsh was the first big competition for the Playford family, who were music publishing giants in seventeenth-century London. Walsh and his children, like the Playfords, survived by securing relationships with big-name composers, but also continued to publish popular country dance collections like Caledonian Country Dances, where we find these two petticoat tunes. “Loose the Belt” comes from Richard Fitzmaurice. Fitzmaurice was an Irish piper who lived and published tunes in Edinburgh, Scotland. He published several volumes of his Fitzmaurice’s New Collections of Irish Tunes. I have played through several of them on the podcast, in Season 5, episodes 14, 18 & 30 and Season 6, Episode 6. www.wetootwaag.com

I've played Highland pipes and uilleann pipes since the nineties. My albums are an opportunity for me to keep the tunes and songs I have most enjoyed from creating the podcast.
