about

This monster set feels like a stand alone “best of” for some of my favorite sources. It beings with John Murphy’s setting for “Miss Boswell’s Jigg,” which is a good example of Murphy’s funky settings. “Wet is this Night and Cold” comes from Patrick MacDonald’s collection of Highland Airs; this air refused to leave my fingers for a couple of months every time I picked up a whistle. That timeframe coincided with getting my wife’s childhood harp, and soon I was playing it on harp as well. “St. Patrick’s Day” and “The Campbells are Coming” are from O’Farrell’s Pocket Companion. This is the track I have tinkered with the most, and I was still actively revising it when my new Jon Swayne pipes arrived. The Eliza Ross tunes were a late addition which really holds the set together and makes for a satisfying album finale.

I've played Highland pipes and uilleann pipes since the nineties. My albums are an opportunity for me to keep the tunes and songs I have most enjoyed from creating the podcast.
