Mr. Preston’s Hornpipe
One of my goals for this album was to play some of my favorite tunes from the Border of Scotland and England and from some of my favorite Border pipers. This tune in a way does both. While not technically considered part of the Borders this tune hails from Lincolnshire and was introduced to me by Pete Stewart. I’ve always been really impressed with Pete’s performing when watching from abroad, though I have been startled by his “Piper Face” which is quite stern and serious looking. I’ve been very fortunate to have gotten to know Pete a bit over the Pandemic via zoom meetings, and I was surprised to find that he has a contagious smile and his default mode is not “Piper Face” but instead exuberant joy. Mr. Preston’s Hornpipe is already an 11 part Hornpipe, and I decided to repeat a couple variations to make it even longer.
