about

This tune comes from a 1900 transcription by Charlotte Milligan-Fox, who got it from Piper Kelly, from whom she got a lot of airs. Piper Kelly said the tune was associated with Jimmy Joyce, who was a Galway piper who played Irish pipes at the 1792 Belfast convention of harpers. I have made some adjustments to the tune, due at first to my misunderstanding of Fox’s transcription methods. I enjoy the sound of the tune not played in this minor key style, but this setting wins out for me.
