about

24. Carey Baxter’s Three Waves [Original Composition]
Many of us lost friends and loved ones in 2020. My friend and patron of sorts Carey Baxter passed away unexpectedly in early 2020 and I wasn't able to attend the funeral. I composed and sent this tune in my stead. I had the fortune to become friendly with Carey Baxter where he lived on Madeline Island. For many years I had a recurring gig there, the first time I went to the Island Carey was a cook at the Bell Street Tavern and from that year on, every time I came to the island he put down a significant bar tab down for me and my friends. I will never forget the single best experience I have ever had performing a Pibroch was playing McIntosh's Lament while wading in Lake Superior, on the Beach coming to shore for a drink and explanation of the tune between each variation.
I think Carey would get a kick out of his tune being between a Hymn and a Bawdy Tune (The Black Joke).
I played this tune on the very first episode of Season 4: www.wetootwaag.com/4
